Taft IV (Deputy Secretary of Defense) signed a DoD Directive entitled "Use of Ada in Weapon Systems" (tentatively designated DoDD 3405.xx). This directive requires the use of Ada for computers integral to weapons systems, effective immediately; requires the use of validated Ada compilers; and requires the use of an Ada based Program Design Language during the designing of the software. As soon as we in the Ada Joint Program Office receive the official designation for this Directive, we will distribute the actual text over the net (which should be within a week). Virginia L.
