NMEA-0183 sentences produced by a Garmin GPS-65 If you know of differences or similarities to other Garmin models, please advise me (bennett@triumf.ca) and I will add the info to this file. This data was collected Sat Nov 19, 1994, at about 14:54 PST (Z +8) The boat was stationary. The following sentences are each sent once every two seconds, except for GPR00 and GPWPL. When a route is active, GPWPL is sent once every two seconds, reporting each waypoint in the route in sequence, then GPR00 is sent once, and the sequence repeats. Characters following the "*" are a checksum. Checksums are optional for most sentences, according to the standard. Garmin includes checksums on all sentences. $GPVTG,054.7,T,034.4,M,000.5,N,000.9,K*47 Course made good, 054.7 degrees True, 034.4 degrees Magnetic Speed made good, 000.5 Knots, 000.9 Kilometers/hr $GPRMC,225446,A,4916.45,N,12311.12,W,000.5,054.7,191194,020.3,E*68 225446 Time of fix 22:54:46 UTC A Navigation receiver warning A = OK, V = warning 4916.45,N Latitude 49 deg. 16.45 min North 12311.12,W Longitude 123 deg. 11.12 min West 000.5 Speed over ground, Knots 054.7 Course Made Good, True 191194 Date of fix 19 November 1994 020.3,E Magnetic variation 20.3 deg East $GPRMB,A,0.66,L,003,004,4917.24,N,12309.57,W,001.3,052.5,000.5,V*0B A Data status A = OK, V = warning 0.66,L Cross-track error, steer Left to correct 003 Origin waypoint ID 004 Destination waypoint ID 4917.24,N Destination waypoint latitude 49 deg. 17.24 min. "P" denotes proprietary, "GRM" is Garmin's manufacturer code, and "M" ro "Z" indicates the specific sentence type. PGRMZ,93,f,3*21 93,f Altitude in feet 3 (unknown - doesn't appear to change) This sentence shows in feet, regardless of units shown on the display. PGRMM,NAD27 Canada*2F Currently active horizontal datum PSLIB,,,J*22 I don't know what this means. I think I have seen another letter, or a character in one of the empty fields, but haven't saved that data. According to the standard, it is a proprietary sentence for someone other than Garmin, but the information I have doesn't list "SLI" as a manufacturer ID. Peter Bennett bennett@triumf.ca
