There is one problem with the 1278:  I had problems copying RTTY and AMTOR
until I put an RFI "power line" choke on the cable from the 1278 to the radio.
Apparently, there's a lot of RF noise on the 1278's ground plane that affects
the radio when the 1278 is plugged into it.  The choke cleared things up
quite nicely; there is no noise now when I plug it in.
