FT757GX.1 From: OZ5XN@OZ6BBS.KBH.SJL.DNK.EU Dr. FT757GX user! As a user of the "old" FT757GX, -in fact one of the first models imported, several years ago, i had a wish about some improvements. I use the rig, -also for VHF/UHF with transverters. For packet-use is the attack-time for the squelch much too slow, so i made an simple modification in order to improve this function.: The simple "trick" is just to change C158 (10uF) and C159 (4,7 uF), both to 1 uF. They are located near Q22 (MC 3359), and it's possible to change them from the upperside of the PCB.: Push in the old capacitors with a cutting-tool, -and the lead-wires are left back in the PCB, -for use to solder the new ones in the same place. After this modification, -the squelch is now working perfect (and fast) in all modes. The "internal" PMS-scan-speed is very slow too. I had therefore made an modi- fication to the hand-mike (Yaesu MH-1) in order to set the "internal PMS-scan" to "fast-mode".: On the backside of the mike, -there is a switch for tone-select. One half of the switch is now used for "short-cirquit" the fast-scan-button on the mike (pin 4 & 5 in the mike-plug). This simple modification will improve the scanning-speed (to fast-mode), - operated from the "PMS-button" on the rig too! Now to a question: During many years of operation with the rig, -my biggest wish however, is to have the dial-speed (tuning) improved. As you probably will know, -it's unbelievable slow - and boring - only 10 kHz per dial-revolution! (How about using an electric driller - hi hi!). When used in FM-mode (on 10 meter or with transverters), -it's even worse! If any of the readers have some informations about a change to - say, - a factor 5 or 10 increase in tuning speed, -please let me now! Otherwise, - i'll have to find out of something myself. Please, -have a nice and funny time!! (((((( Vy 73 de Allan, OZ5XN @ OZ6BBS.KBH.SJL.DNK.EU - Copenhagen )))))))
