IC765.4 For IC-765 owners I have a good tip if the automatic antenna tuner " hunts" after the first tuning phase is complete. I has been very happy and satisfied with my new toy but.....this problem in the antenna tuner was bothering me. Any way....this situation starts normaly after a few months of use in the IC-765 ( with radios starting in serial number 1001 and above). If you try to tune any antenna, the tuner becomes crazy and the red light on the front panel is ON all the time. At the same time the power is half for SSB operation and half if you try AM. This happen because the feedback circuit that controls the tuning motors (two), becomes sensitive after a few months of " aging". Sometimes, the tuner is death and there is not any power out of the radio. I call Icom and they offer me to fix the radio ( no charge) but if you know how to use a simple screwdriver.....do what they told me. This way you don't need to send the radio to Icom service and the estimated time to complete this adjustment is 15 minutes: Open the top cover and locate the antenna tuner board. Is the one at the right ( is the only one in this area) in the rear and with a lithium battery. In this board locate variable resistors R5 and R10 and set them to the center of their range. Set the radio in 14.000 with the tuner ON in RTTY mode and transmit 30 seconds and adjust each control (R5 and R10) so neither motor tunes when changing from SSB to RTTY. NOTE: R5 (right) controls right motor and R10 (left) controls left motor in the antenna tuner. Repeat this adjustement to verify proper operation and then check on all other bands. You are ready to enjoy again your radio......and your built in automatic antenna tuner trouble free for long time. 73s de Lionel in Miami KC4CLD @ KC4CLD.MIADXFL.FL.USA.NA
