TH22AT.1 The following are modifications which will extend the RX and TX range of the Kenwood mini-HT's TH22AT and TH42AT. My thanks to the two individuals back in 9 land who supplied them to me. Disassembly: 1. Remove soft case and belt clip if used. 2. Remove battery and antenna. 3. Remove knobs by pulling them off. 4. Gently pry off rubber escutcheon from top of HT. 5. Remove two screws on back of case holding the front and back together. 6. Gently squeeze plastic half of radio on sides and pull back half away from front half. 7. Take care not to damage silver interconnect ribbons. Modification: Remove W 202 on control board. (one of two green jumper wires). Important Note: This mod has been confirmed on my TH42AT and works well. This is not the mod I originally did on my TH22AT. On the 2M radio I was advised to remove SMA diode D208 and install it where diode D212 should go. You should note on the schematic that W 202 is in series with D208 and removing it has the same effect as removing diode D208. If you want to take the risk (minimal in my opinion) you can try the removal of W 202 on the 2M rig too instead of removing the D208 diode and see if it is really necessary to move D208 to the D212 spot. This is much easier than trying to remove and reinstall these very small SMA diodes, and likely successful as the control boards and schematics of the two radios appear to be nearly identical in these areas. Good luck. Ed WB6SAT
