EXPANDED FREQUENCY COVERAGE:
The TH-78a will  recieve far  beyond it's  factory  settings.   It will  also 
transmit outside it's normal range to some extent (of course thats not legal,
now is it?).  By removing diode D5 the frequecy tuning will be expanded.  New
ranges include:
    121-170 Mhz transmit and receive
    400-500 Mhz transmit and receive
 
    300-399 Mhz receive and 800-999 Mhz receive only
      To get 300 & 800 Mhz coverage place the TH-78a in VFO mode.  Press  the
      "F" key for longer than one second, then press  the "BAND" button.  The
      sensitivity of the radio is not good in the  800-999 Mhz range.  I have
      not tested it personally yet, but rumour has  it that it's pretty  bad.
