Snap. Mike Aube is right.
Peugeot had a long wheelbase 402 in the 1930s with three rows of seats.
Just before I read the AutoExpress article a friend returned a copy of US
magazine Collectible Automobiles for Oct 2001, which has extensive photo
coverage of the Peugeot 402 and I spotted a familiale.
Standard car has 142 inch wheelbase chassis and the eight passenger car,
commercialle and, for a year, a special taxi, were build on a 130 inch
wheelbase.
Then the 402 engine was fitted to a car on a 102 inch wheelbase and called
the 302.
There is a photo of a 402 in California owned by Bill Brodek with the rego
39 PUJO. A restored short wheelbase car that has been used in several movie
productions.
Also for collectors of trivia, it mentions the 402 introduced safety door
latches designed to resist flying open, 15 years before Mercedes announced
it had invented them.
The Type 18 of 1896 was Peugeot's first people mover. It had eight places.
