    Hello

I'm completely new to this list. I've just acquired a 309 diesel 'Style'
with 155,000 recorded miles. The service history is weak but I got the car
for a song so I'm not complaining.

It has lost fifth gear. Can't even be 'held -in' on the stick. No probs with
any of the other gears and no undue noise or clatter from the box. What
could cause loss of fifth gear?

Also, there are clunking noises coming from the front end of the car when
cornering, especially when turning right. I suspect nearside (I'm UK-based)
outer CV joint but would like to know if anyone has other ideas.

Engine-wise, it doesn't seem too bad. It stutters a bit from cold, that is
it 'misses' but this disappears quite quickly and it doesn't appear to be
    using much oil.

I'm led to believe that from 50,000 miles it had regular servicing but
suspect this related only to repairs and oil and coolant change.

I'm making enquiries this week at a local Peugeot garage about the problems
but would like some back-up advice.

Would like to keep the car but just need to know what I'm up against with
    regard to the above faults.

Shall be most grateful for any help.

    Regards Larry T.
