It sure sounds like a bad master cylinder. I prefer a new one though, not
that much more than a kit and sure last a lot longer.

after checking the other possibilities.. The brake tends to work
when you quickly depress the pedal, the seals can work properly under
these conditions.? but If you brake smoothly the fluid is probably
leaking past..
