First off, I want to say hello. I am new to the world of Peugeots
after many years of watercooled Volkswagens (1994 Jetta III, 1984
gti, 1982 Cabriolet). Where I live (outside of Seattle WA) modified
VW's are a dime a dozen. It sucks to see yourself coming and going 50
times a day!
About 3 weeks ago I was returning back from snowboarding at Mt. Baker
and wound up following a gold 405. I was in the market for a new toy
(Toyota 4Runner and Audi TT quattro are our daily drivers)
and "remembered" the 405 after seeing the gold one. I was always fond
of the styling so I jumped online to see what info was available. All
of the contributors to this group made all the difference! It is nice
to see a group of people passionate about their cars.
After searching all over the 'net (thanks TJ!) I found a car in San
Jose, Ca. It was an '89, black, with grey leather. I flew down this
past weekend and bought the car. My fiance and I drove it home to
Seattle over the holiday weekend. As soon as I saw the car I fell in
love with it. It has 104,000 miles on it, with all records.
Everything works except the cruise control and the keyless-entry. The
car could stand a good wax job, which I plan to tackle this weekend.
The interior is spotless.
We drove 1,050 miles in three days, no problems. The car was great on
the highway. I love the huge gas tank! With the A/C (converted to
r12, ice cold) on, we averaged about 28 mpg. It is kind of funny to
drive the 405 after the TT. In terms of powerband they are complete
opposites. The 405 doesn't seem to come alive until about 4,500 rpms
or so...where as the TT makes a bunch of power down low. We cruised
70 the whole way, I like 5th gear NOT being an overdrive...sure makes
climbing hills a breeze.
Well, I guess that is it. I will post some pictures of the car soon,
if anyone is interested.
Take care.
