Having recently changed the front brake pads on my Mi16 (last time I did
that was in the 70s on an Alfetta), I am tempted to consider another
project but I have my doubts.
I have a bad rear brake caliper (I can pull the emergency lever all the
way to the roof and it won't hold the car if there's a leaf under the
front wheel) and I'm wondering if I could do it myself with simple hand
tools and a pair of ramps. My big worry is that the Haynes manual says
over and over again that the ABS brake lines are under pressure and
inexperienced idiots like Fred Smith (their actual words, cf. pages 27,
43 and 97) should not mess with them.
Caliper replacement doesn't look so tough. Does my experience replacing
toilet float valves (numerous times) qualify me for handling ABS lines?
