I hate when I start thinking - it leads to all sorts of...thoughts. (The
great Stooge Curly once said: "I tried thinking once, but nothing
    happened!")

    Theoretical question:

Since I love the Mi16, but need a bit more carrying capacity, an Mi16
Sportwagon would be ideal. Am I correct that the engine compartment of
all 405s is just about the same? Struts, radiator in the same places,
etc.? Since the Mi16 engine is notoriously bullet-proof (broken timing
belts nothwithstanding), and since the single cam engine of the other
    405s is, uh, not.....

Okay, an engine swap might be tough to do. But how pulling the engine,
tranny and axle out, and ploping in the e, a & t from an Mi16? Hook up
the hoses and wires (and clean the corrosion off the connectors while
    you're at it), and viola!

    I've got a great-running Mi16 with a somewhat beat and faded body.
There's gotta be a Sportwagen with blown engine somewhere. A couple
    hundred bucks labor.....

    No?
