Maybe this has happened to you too (probably has, I'd guess). You pull out
the dipstick on your 8-valve 405 (which you most likely do three or four
times daily due to excessive oil consumption) and the plastic handle
crumbles off into 10 or so pieces in your hand. Now you have a dipstick
that can't tell you exactly how much oil is in your engine.
And now that this has happened to me for the second time in as many
dipsticks, I'd like to know if someone could let me know....how much of the
dipstick should be inserted into the sump for an accurate reading? If
someone has an 8v dipstick that is still intact with the plastic handle,
could you please measure from the end of the dipstick to where the lip rests
on the dipstick tube so I can mark the same distance on my dipstick and get
an accurate reading? I'm sure there are others on this list who need the
same info!
