    By stepper motor I assume you mean the silver thing with the
    2 hoses to it on top of the intake manifold
    We call it the idle speed control motor in NA
    Try pinching off one of these hoses with a needle nose vise grip
    next time it won't start hot.
    Have you tried completely flooring the accelerator pedal when trying
    to start it when hot?
