It sounds to me that your ABS is now working. Those little "gives" are
the ABS doing its job on little things that the wheels would just be
sliding over when the ABS isn't working. I get those littles "gives" when
I brake, approaching a highway toll booth. The pavement is often kind of
washboard-y, and the ABS kicks in for just a sec. Without the ABS I'd
just be scrubbing a little bit of rubber.
If your ABS hasn't been working full-time (is the ABS warning light on
when it's not?), it might be something as simple as a corroded electrical
connection. Mine's been acting up again, a few months after I last
cleaned the connection where the ABS ground wires (2 heavy wires,
green/yellow) are bolted to the passenger side fender, right near the ABS
box.
