you mention 5k oil filter so if you still have summer oil in it and its a
    bit cold out.....
Of course the first to do is put a gage.

Subject: 405 DL oil pressure question

Tonight I noticed a curious phenomenon when starting up the 405. Of
course during cranking, all the dash warning lights go out and do not
normally re-illuminate after the engine has begun to fire. However,
tonight the oil pressure warning light came back on again after
starting, and it remained on for about 1.5 to 2 seconds. Usually
when my car starts running, the oil light and STOP light on the dash
go off immediately - unless I've just changed the oil, in which case
they stay on for about 4 seconds after starting while the oil filter
    fills up.

I checked the oil level and it was well inside the normal range,
probably 0.35 L short of totally full. So that's not it.

The scenarios I've though of that could explain this are:
    1) oil filter has a flaw, in which it's letting oil drain back into
the sump when the engine is off. This seems unlikely, as that
filter's been in place for about 5000 km and it hasn't had this
problem so far. Could it change in mid-stream? I could throw
another one on to see if it makes any difference...
    2) the oil pump in the car is failing.
    3) the oil pressure sensor is failing.
    4) the wiring is somehow screwing up (it's very humid here right now).

My 405 DL is a 1989, it has 279,500 km, I park it on our slanted
driveway and have done for some time (3.5 years) with the nose
pointing uphill. Nothing else that I do has changed.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
