Hi Bill Bob Mike and all: Thank you all for the responses. What a good
    group Pug owners are!
The first work done was new plugs [NGKBKR5EYA] cap, rotor, plug wires. Then
a strong injector cleaner, [I think he put it into the air intake?] and some
other cleaner into the gas tank and took it for a 150 mile highway run. Then
a compression test, 125,110,102,132. Looked at the camshaft, no wear,
    clearance okay,checked cam belt timing,exhaust back pressure,replaced 02
sensor, removed and cleaned idle valve. Did a 'motor vac' [don't know what
that is] but prior to that the vacuum at idle was 10" after it was 14.5"
Vacuum is now back down to 10" at idle and drops to 3or2" as soon as the gas
    pedal is touched.
I checked for codes in the computor on the two green wires and there were
none. If there is low back pressure [.5"] would you still get rid of the
cat convertor? The shop in Kelowna is one of the shops that did most of
    the work.
Another thing that I think is seperate is that for about two years it has
lost [but not leaked] about 2 cups of coolant a month.
History: Car has 80,000 km on it, has been well maintained by a LOL who
only put 7000 k on it in the last 3 years. Used it more than that previously
    including 3 trips to Calif.
Thank you for your help and advice. I appreciate it.
    David.
