Well, I am just speaking from my memory and exprience. I have no offcial material to comfirm that. Out of 4 XU9j4 engines I have taken apart all had no sign of gaskets if I remember correctly...
And you know j4 has an alloy block reinforcement plate sandwitched between the pan and block. I wouldn't think they would put two paper gaskets in there. May be they used silion between the plate and block and gasket on the pan?

Where are you getting that, I wonder? Page 03A05A of the parts fiche
shows the same pan gasket as the XU9J2 engine, viz 0304.34. The only
XU9J4 oil pan I have pulled recently still has half of the gasket
stuck to it. No sign of any silicone.
