Mi16 oil filler cap

The oil filler cap on my current Mi has a chip taken out of the rim so I decided to swap it for the cap sitting on the DOA's engine. Difference: the DOA cap has a gunked-up mesh thing in the cap while the "chipped" cap is empty up there.
Is the "Brillo" cap preferred over the empty one? Does it matter at all?
