403 project

okay, so i've taken the gas tank out, cleaned it out with a kit that
had three parts to it, and let it dry for almost a week. replaced
the gas nozzle and the breather tube. put it back in. gas tank is
done. i had issues with the sensor, but i think that it is working
okay now. (we'll see better after the first tankful of that most
outrageously-priced fluid!)
anyway, so the next thing that i did was to take off the carb (it
was backfiring quite a bit out of it) and drop it into a bucket of
acid for a few hours, then put it all back together most carefully
(and i think that i did it correctly?!) had to remake one of the
gaskets, but was relatively successful at that, i believe... so then
i put it all back, and after taking it back off and tightening
everything down better the second time as it was spurting out gas -
duh - i started the car back up, and it was terribly "airy"
sounding. tore the gasket of the accelerator pump accidentally ~ and
there is no replacing that as it has a cylinder attached to it.
the carb has is a solex.
does anyone have any hope for me?
did any of this make any sense?!
I so look forward to your responses,
Desiree
