Remove the tail lamp, then you can remove the tank with the hose.
You going to be in town on Bastille day? My wife and I should be there with the VEA ( Voitures Europeennes d'Autrefois/ Vintage European Automobiles). The planned wheels for the event are a 604 SL, the 304 cabriolet having major work done, the 403 wagon is on a movie set and the significant other will not travel that far in the 203.

      Hello All,

HELP! I have to remove the gas tank
      (for cleaning) from my 1962 403 four-door
sedan. The bolts were free and are out. The gas
line is easily disconnected as are the wires for
the fuel gauge. BUT, the filler pipe (the
large-diameter neoprene hose that fits over the
collar on the top of the tank) has some piping in
it which prevents me from sliding it off that
collar. What should I do? What in blazes is that
stuff in the filler pipe, and what is the role of
the thin metal tube that emerges straight up from
the gas tank and is held in place by a welded
on(?) clip at the top on the inside of the
collar? Neither of my two manuals deals with the
issue. I would greatly appreciate advice from a
knowledgeable and experienced Peugeot owner. My
lady and I want to use our Peugeot on a holiday
through the Maritime Provinces in August. (we live in Québec City).

      Thank you for your patience,

      Tomas Feininger
      Québec
