Jerry, in response to my diagnostic procedure question writes that I
should do a "leak down compression test" and asks if the car has power at
    times other than at idle.
What exactly is a "leak down compression test" and how do I go about
    doing one of those?
Also, at high rpm's the car seems okay. At idle it sounds like my old 67
VW Beetle. I had the valves done a couple of years ago and it has just been
recently that it has been running so poorly. This is what prompted me to
check out the compression. I have had some suggestions about plug wires, but
a bad plug wire isn't going to affect a compression reading. I am using a
quick release Proto CTR-20 and getting proper readings in the other cylinders.
So, I guess I need to have the "leak down" procedure spelled out to me
and, perhaps, could use some vacuum leak detection tips. Sorry to come
across as such an imbecile. Once I am pointed in the right direction I
    generally do the work properly.
    Thanks,
    Ken in RIchmond, CA
