I have replaced quite a number of heads and gaskets and have never replaced
head bolts, but Peugeot does recommend replacing the washers. The really
important thing is to retorque in exactly the order that Peugeot recommends.
It helps if you have the obstruction wrench that fits as it avoids taking
the valve train off each time to get at those bolts placed ever so
conveniently under the valve train. I agree that the xd2 is more prone to
head gasket problems, the xd2t seems much better with additional
strengthening and higher grade of bolt. Yes it will get worse and when it
does go it will not be pleasant and additional damage is highly likely.
good luck.
