I have had my 77 (titled 76) gas for about 20 years and about three years ago
started a restoration of it as a Sunday spare. Being a northern car, it had
accumulated rust. I took it to a well known shop that specialized in
removing all rusted areas, and putting new metal in. $1,500 later I had a
rust free car except for small more routine spots that the body shop would
have done. I also did a slew of mechanical work at Fred's Peugeot. Solex
rebuilds, new ball joints, etc. Bought a bunch of stuff from Brian including
rear tail light lenses, interior door panels, center console, quad headlight
surrounds, steering wheel, floor carpets, etc. I also have a replacement
wiper motor for the slow wipers.
The drive train is terrific. Engine has about 98000 miles and runs great.
Always took terrific care of it. I have an american Delco alternator on it.
The torque tube was replaced also. The gas tank (in the trunk) inside was
also lined in a special plastic.
Then my son took it for a ride and it aquaplaned into a guard rail sliding
along the rail on the drivers side. No structural damage but did can opener
stuff to the left front fender and door that requires replacement and dents
to the rear door and rear panel that requires some good body work. Was also
planning to have seats recovered. They are the tan fabric and are well worn
and sunbleached. That took the heart out of my restoration dreams and I now
want to sell it (I have a new front left fender and know where to get a front
left door).
The car drives well except for a broken throttle cable (I have a new
replacement kit from Peugeot).
I am located near the intersection of I-95 and I-476 in Suburban
Philadelphia. PA. If you want to call, my number is 610.543.7337
