    Hello Group,

I recently replaced the fuel filter on my '79 504 Diesel but have not had a
great deal of luck in bleeding the air from the fuel system and re-starting the
car. Using the plunger on the filter bowl I have been able to bring fuel
into the filter but quite a bit of air still stays in the filter and doesn't want
to come out. I gather that the correct procedure is to pump the plumger
about 20 times then open the bleeder screw at the filter and repeat this process
untill no more air comes out. There is also a bleeder screw on the injection
    pump.

My original intent was to remove all the air from the filter bowl first. Then
open the pump bleeder screw and loosen the fuel lines and crank the engine to
get as much air out as possible.

Anyway, any explanation of how to get all the air out would be appreciated.
I can't believe this process should be as difficult as its been.

Also, what is that plastic valve on top of the 504 D gas tank? What role
does that play in venting of the tank?

    Thanks,

    Carl
