I really need some help with what I think is a vacuum advance problem
with my 85 XN6. Right now, I'm unemployed and can't find documents
detailing the system that make sense to me, so any advice would be
    gratefully received.

Basically, the symptoms are: 'bouncy' idle (occasionally stalling),
needing to rev the car to about 3000 RPM before letting the clutch
out or it stalls, no real power through the gears below 3000 RPM (it
struggles to pull itself along), off-beat exhaust sound (like the
    timing is off).

I've checked the basics - rotor arm, dist. cap, wires, plugs; timing
chain, tensioner, and filter were replaced less than 5000 miles ago -
and can't find anything obviously amiss, but having a non-working car
