Yeah I've had that happen on my VW Golf diesel.

    Subject: 600,000 on 505?

I was visiting my local Peugeot shop and while waiting, I was looking at the
other peugeots in the lot. One 505 had 600k on the clock and looked
remarkably good. It made my 200K seem insignificant. So I asked the shop
owner about it and he said the tenths portion of the odometer froze, so
instead of recording tenths, it started recording miles.
    Bill
