I recently replaced the OEM tape deck which wasn't working and upgraded
the rear deck speakers in my 505 STI. I purchased the stuff from
crutchfield and installed with little hassle.
After much research, I discovered that the Kenwood 2-way 5/25" speakers
will fit in the orginal Peugeot enclosures un-modified. The model
number is KFC-1377. This greatly simplifies the installation. They go
for $79 pair and are a dramatic upgrade from the orginal speakers. They
are forcing me to think about replacing the front component set too.
I choose a Kenwood CD player KDC-216S ($149 - removable face plate and
good match for the gray interior) It is mostly black with yellow
display lights. Not shiny with tons of dancing graphics! It looks good
and the specs were better than most on FM reception. Also plays CD,
CD-R, CD R/W. The installation went well. The only challenge is that
you have to hardwire the unit. I used the wiring harness off of the old
radio to make it easy to unplug if I ever need to take it out. Figuring
the wiring out was a little tricky. I basically pulled the old unit
out, but still wired and with it on, cut the wires and labeled which
speakers they were driving. I documented the wire colors/codes. If
anyone needs it let me know.
I don't know a ton about car stereo, but I am very happy with my
selections.
