Most 5 1/4" speakers will fit in the factory plastic "carriers" for the rear
parcel shelf with a bit of fiddling. One of my cars has some 120W Sony 3
ways which really do sound very nice. The proper solution though is to cut
larger holes in the shelf and use 6 x 9 speakers - one of mine has 280W
Kenwood 3 ways of this type which are terrific. If the holes are big enough
the speakers use the air space in the boot (trunk) and can really pump some
bass.
To listen on the move the front speakers are more significant - I have used
Pioneer components to replace the factory speakers (both the ones in the
footwells and the dash top tweeters) with huge improvement in sound quality -
the kit only costs GBP 50.00 - part No TSH 1702. You need a little ingenuity
in mounting the tweeters but the mids screw straight into the removeable
footwell panels.
