I have an immaculate, beautifully and lovingly maintained 88
505-STI w/ only 40,000 miles. The automobile is garaged and
only driven on weekends.
New York City probably has the worst roads in the USA, and if
you believe the stories about the size of rats/rodents here, you
can imagine the state of roads/pot holes in the city. Although
i do most of my own cosmetic detailing on the automobile,
recently a detailer (who is not a mechanic) told me that i
needed new rear shock absorbers because the peugeot "looked
lower than normal." since he made that comment, I am aware that
the 505 does seem lower and that it's rider seems different.
Not being a mechanic and not knowing a reputable import mechanic
up here (I usually drive my car to Loy's in Virginia and need
someone in the Manhattan area to service the car -- any
suggestions?) can anyone tell me how I would determine if in
fact the rear shocks need to be replaced? (A recent passenger
in the 505 said he believed he "felt" and "heard" the rear tires
rubbing the wheel-well when we rode over a bump, but I think he
was just reacting to the detailer's comments.)
Help guys ... I don't want to do damage to my beloved 505 but I
also don't want to be taken for a ride (excuse the pun) by a
mechanic to change the shocks if it isn't necessary.
Thanks
