If you only get the shimmy when applying brakes it isn't wheel
balancing issue, it is warped rotor(s) up front, possibly back or
maybe even all around. This is caused mostly by idiots tightening
down the lug bolts (Mi16) or lug nuts (505) WAY too much at tire
shops and service shops, etc. They usually put them back on with an
air wrench instead of using a torque wrench like they should.
Sometimes they don't even use a torque tube socket for the air guns
(sorry, forgot exactly what they are called). This is very very bad
for the rotors and will definitely cause your rotors to become warped
very soon if they aren't immediately warped. Purchase a torque
wrench yourself and torque them down properly right after they put
the wheels on right in their parking lot. Make sure to bring a
breaker bar too because they will be about twice as tight as they
need to and you don't want to use the torque wrench to loosen them
up. Pardon to anyone on-list that works at a tire shop, I hope you
don't do this too.
By the way, I have never seen brake rotors become warped by anything
besides over tightening the wheels except when someone like me drives
(I drive EXTREMELY hard, all the time, and hardly ever give the
brakes time to cool down afterwards). And even at that level of
punishment it takes a long time for the rotors to get warped.
