505 '85 Gasket and trim removal for painting

A few questions, relating to prepping the car for painting:
1) I thought that rather than mask around the windshield and rear window gaskets, I might just remove them. How difficult is it? Will the glass stay in place for a few days without the gaskets in place? Are the gaskets reusable? Are they expensive to replace?
2) With respect to the (ugly, deteriorated-looking) chromed-plastic inserts that press into the gaskets, are THEY reusable? Has anyone had any luck with repainting them (say, flat black? or body color?) and reusing them?
3) Can anyone tell me how to remove the chrome trim from the top of the door panels, just below the window glass? Do I need any special tools to take them off? How do they reinstall?
TIA, Marty
