gaskets, I might just remove them. How difficult is it? Will the glass
stay in place for a few days without the gaskets in place? Are the gaskets
reusable? Are they expensive to replace?

You can not replace the front gasket without removing the windshield
The rear gasket comes out with the window
The good paint job will use a string under the gasket to raise it off the
    metal so
the paint can get on the metal under the gasket.

    > 2) With respect to the (ugly, deteriorated-looking) chromed-plastic
inserts that press into the gaskets, are THEY reusable? Has anyone had any
luck with repainting them (say, flat black? or body color?) and reusing
    them?

If they are ugly they are old and brittle and will crack and break apart on
    removal,
they are only available from Peugeot and they must be installed in the
    gasket before
the whole assy (windshiels, rubber and insert) is dropped into a fresh bead
    of urethane
windshield glue in the body opening.

    > 3) Can anyone tell me how to remove the chrome trim from the top of the
door panels, just below the window glass? Do I need any special tools to
take them off? How do they reinstall?

They must be pushed down and well I never have figured what the secret to
    getting them out
    100% unscathed is
