I finished my '85 505 "Engine Start" button installation, and it looks
mighty fine (I put it in that blank panel to the lower left of the
dashboard), big red shielded button with a silver label. It works
    perfectly.

And now, ironically enough, so does the regular ignition switch. I had
blamed my key cylinder (why not? it's been faulty on all my other Peugeots),
but that wasn't it. I can only guess that the true problem was the mice in
the fusebox. None of the wires were even half-severed; none were touching
at the time I went in there; but the missing wire insulation was the only
    thing I repaired.

I'm happy I put in the button anyway; there may come a day it's necessary,
and it's a fine backup. Meanwhile, I guess the moral of the story is that
Peugeots are tougher than they seem, and if all other components check out
    OK, look in that fusebox.
