91 505 K&N filter on a ZDJL?

What's the point of that HUGE airbox on the ZDJL?? it's double the
length of the filter, seems like empty space to me. Not having it
thier would make oil filter changes a snap! What whould be the
drawbacks to just putting a K&N cone filter on the end of the MAF?
Worth the money?
