1986 505GL XN6 4spd auto not starting

Bad car karma. Went to go to work this morning and the car wouldn't start.
It cranks, but doesn't turn over. My father said to crank and then see if I
smelled any gas by the exhaust pipe, which I didn't, so he thought it might
be a fuel problem. The weather is nasty, snowy, cold, and damp, but the car
ran okay yesterday when it was really snowing, so I don't know if that could
have prompted a change. The fuel pump has been making a funny whiney noise
off and on for a while now, is it possible that it suddenly died? Or is
there something else that it could be? I tried this afternoon and the car
still won't start.
