    A split intercooler-to-throttle body hose can cause the car to run
    poorly and generate a sound that resembles escaping air.

    Also, a split accordian hose from the airflow meter to turbocharger
    can also cause the same sort of symptoms--except the sound is that of
    air being pulled in.

    Note that failures are common to both hoses if they are original.
    After 10+ years of use, those hoses can become a little iffy.
