The 88'+ 505's have the newer 2 pc strut assemblies, with the one piece lower a-arm - and that design needs the longer tie rod assembly. The version you got is for the earlier 1pc strut assembly design on 505's prior to 88'.
If you can use the center part from your old piece then great - but on my 88' parts car the inner tie rod is part of that center sleeve - or at least appears to be as I couldn't separate the two. (Was hoping to use the rack in my 86 but it was way too wide.)

Thank you to the member who helped me. The
tie rod assembly is out of the car. Absolutely
no "dis-ing" of Rock Auto, but the replacement
is about 2 inches shorter in the middle. The inner
ball/socket and the outer tie rod look identical
to the old part. Alas, with the exception of being
too short. Is using only the extremeties with my old
center rod an option? Is the ball/socket end made to
be removed from center adjusting rod?
Out of curiousity...who gets the shorter assy?...504?
604?
