Why convert the car to r-134a? Just have them evacuate it and install some
fresh oil and freeze-12. Freeze-12 is a non-flammable hydrocarbon
refrigerant designed to replace r-12 without the damage to the ozone layer,
and it's inexpensive. Use all the old components (except maybe a new dryer)
The VW dealer agreed to do it to my car for me. He said the freeze-12
will cost about $40.
