One '82, the one that has been the most dependable; several '85s; one '86.
Engines all about the same -- dependable, no head issues. Of course, I
acquired the '86 later in its life. The original head (or whole engine) may
have been swapped out for an earlier version, before I got it. That isn't
much help, but also, I haven't heard that story. Maybe someone else will
have more precise experience.

Subject: earlier v. later xn6
I've got a question regarding something I've never heard before. I've
always thought of the xn6 as being a rugged, reliable engine
regardless of its application in the 505. Recently, I heard that the
xn6 is REALLY good in 1985 and prior cars, but less so in the '86-'87
cars. I didn't really get the details of why this person had this
opinion. It has something with the head being redesigned for
the '86/'87 cars...
Can anyone enlighten me? Is this poppycock? I'm considering buying
an '86 STi, and while this probably won't dissuade me, I'd like to
hear others' opinions....
Thanks for the advice.
Matt
