505 sti shifter ball and socket

Any help is appreciated. my'84 505 sti 5 speed stopped shifting. the
socket fell off the ball at the bottom of the shifter. I've a 80 505D
w 4sp parts. The tranny is gone but the shifter is good Is there a fix
for the socket when the ball comes loose? Is it possible to take the
fitment parts of the socket off the four speed and repair the socket
on the 5sp. and what is the procedure for removing a socket from a
ball without rendering the socket unusable? is it just a pry fit. and
lastly is it possible to replace the 5sp shifter with the good 4sp
shifter parts? B. Thanks again for any help
