If it wasn't for it being able to idle I would have suspected a vacuum leak, but since it idles that kind of eliminates that... Have you checked to make sure the TPS is working properly? That seems like it could cause the issue you describe... (or something else in the FI control system)

Maybe try unplugging your O2 sensor... If it's running fine at first, it sounds like the issue rears it's head when the car is at temp and goes into closed loop...

    Just guessing... :)

    Hi, Gang:

Some of you may recall that I bought Jim Lill's 1988 ZDJL 5 speed wagon.
Suzy Q, as it is known, has been a wonderful car, with excellent handling,
ride, winter capability and that incomparable 505 wagon utility. But after
five years of operation in the rust belt and with now with 205,000 miles on
the clock, it is regretfully now time to put her to pasture. She has one
final task to perform, and that is to make the 250 mile trip from Toronto to
Mike Aube's place south of Ottawa, preferably under her own steam (Plan B is
on a U-Haul car trailer). However, along with a few other conditions
typical of a 505 of her age, she has developed one peculiar ailment that has
me totally perplexed and I am asking for the advice of the group in
    diagnosing it.

The car runs fine for a while, and then develops a severe stumble under
anything other than idle or full throttle. This necessitates a Zoom-Glide
approach to motoring, where you are either accelerating or coasting. I have
had to do this, twice on Ottawa-Toronto trips and once driving across the
major metropolis of Toronto. As owners of aging Peugeots, we are all used
to adversity, and responding to challenge is our second nature, but I have
to tell you, I am not looking forward to making this final trek zooming and
coasting for 4 hours of Interstate equivalent. I'm thinking it's
ignition-related, with some aspect of timing creating the stumble. Any
    ideas?

BTW, Suzy-s replacement as a heavy-duty winter car is already in place - a
1986 XN6 5 speed wagon, purchased through list member Anup Pahari, and
picked up, last fall, in Shady Side, MD. The only car that can replace a
    505 wagon is another one!

    Many thanks

    Mike Murphy in Toronto
