Thanks to Jürgen for the tip to remove the handle first. After I withdrew the button I remembered the 405 button which is similar and from which one can easily pop out the washer with a screwdriver, pull out the spring, and subsequently compress the tabs which hold the snap cap in place. A new cap would be a nice touch. I shall remember next time.
