'88 505 Turbo tie rod[complete] round 2

Thank you to the member who helped me. The
tie rod assembly is out of the car. Absolutely
no "dis-ing" of Rock Auto, but the replacement
is about 2 inches shorter in the middle. The inner
ball/socket and the outer tie rod look identical
to the old part. Alas, with the exception of being
too short. Is using only the extremeties with my old
center rod an option? Is the ball/socket end made to
be removed from center adjusting rod?
Out of curiousity...who gets the shorter assy?...504?
