Hello all,
I just wanted to fill you in on how I resolved the issue, in case any
604 owners are reading.
I combined approaches suggested by a couple of listers.
I went to autozone and found a hose that fit the close quarters by the
heater valve. That autozone part number is 4392, I don't know what
kind of car it's used in. Also picked up about 18" of 5/8 tubing. I
then went to Lowe's and got a 90 degree brass elbow for pex tubing,
the marked size is 3/4" but the fit is perfect with 5/8". Also needed
is a 45 degree 1/2" plumbing elbow for regular copper pipe (important
that it have the expanded ends on both sides).
Cut about an inch off of the 4392 hose, and the 90 fitting will allow
you to connect this to the straight tubing that you can push through
the firewall. On the engine side, it seemed to me that the tubing is
fine for the 45 degree bend from the firewall, so I just made one cut
for the 45 elbow, which then resulted in a straight run of just a
couple of inches to the cylinder head outlet.
Another advantage to this method is that the most likely place for
failure is the outlet from the cylinder head. Now, I can keep a small
length of extra hose with me and easily replace this section.
Thanks to everyone who responded.
