dashboard removal

I need to remove the dashboard on my 89 405 Mi16 to get at somethings
back there that is shorting out. I looked at it yesterday, and wasn't
quite sure where to start - I really don't want to start unscrewing
things randomly - I made that mistake once with another car, and it
took me hours to get the whole thing off, then back on. Could someone
who has done this please give me some hints as to what needs to be
unscrewed/removed? Also, how long does it take to get it off/on?
