Voltage from alternator

Is there an easy way to measure the voltage from the alternator on an
89 405 Mi16, without hooking up directly to the alternator? Someplace
in the fusebox maybe?

Also, could somebody with the electrical manual please tell me the
function of the two relays that are attached to the top (ceiling?) of
the footwell near the gas pedal. What is that area called anyway? I
don't think footwell is the correct term.

thanks... charles.
