405 stopped burning oil!

Hi,

In the past I've complained a couple of times about high
oil consumption in my '91 405 DL. I was saying that my car
used about 1 qt of oil every 500 miles, yet cylinder pressure
readings were normal (according to the PMA people).
Lew Bailie suggested that the valve guides might be at fault.

Well, this situation improved considerably after I had the radiator
cleaned out which resulted in my engine running 35F cooler than
before (it never went above 175F since the rodding job). Right now,
I'm 1/3 qt down after 800 miles which is an astronomical improvement,
I think.

I would expect to see slight fluctuations in oil usage due to temperature,
but the drop I'm seeing is too large to be explained solely
by a cooler engine.

Anyone has a logic explanation for this?

Thanks,

Radu
