Are you referring to that contraption that's bolted to the exhaust
manifold? My '84 parts car had this but my '86 STI doesn't. In fact,
the exhaust manifold on the STI seems to be very nicely designed and
probably is as good as putting headers on the engine. You may look into
using the newer manifold as a solution.

Same here, but in southern Ontario the culprit is rust. Aside from
major collisions, most Peugeots at the wreckers are rusted badly - front
struts collapse commonly and sheetmetal around windshield rusts badly.
Occasionally you see a car that looks great but has a minor engine
problem that the owner has been scared into thinking costs a fortune to
fix. The owner is faced with selling, which won't yeild a great return,
or scrapping. There are many run-down cars being driven daily but only
a few really nice ones around.

Been there, done that. I still regret selling my 504 Wagon. If I only
had more space to store it I could've found a 5sp tranny for it by now
and been commutting very cheaply now.
